BARBARA BECKERLEG, ARTIST
I have been painting for many years and come from a long line of artists in my family. I live in Plymouth and for the last seven years, have been a member of Drawn to the Valley , a society of professional artists who live and work in the Tamar valley.
I am inspired on a daily basis by the beauty of the countryside and coastline which surround me. This is especially true of Cornwall, and St. Michael's Mount, where my family and name originate. I am also a professional florist , so working with flowers, colours, and peoples emotions even when I'm not at my easel.
I have also been inspired by my travels around the world. In 2005 I went on an Art Safari to South Africa, near the Drakensberg Mountains. I had the unique opportunity to draw the animals roaming free in the Kruger National Park and at the game lodge. I am also inspired by ancient art and culture as well as famous works. I have been to China and the Great Wall, to Egypt,Luxor ,the Aswan Dam, Abu Simbel and many other magnificent temples. I have visited most of the major European art galleries and museums. Up close to works by Degas, Renoir, Klimt,Picasso,Gauguin,Monet, Manet, Klee, Van Gogh, Dali......
Wonders of the world such as Michelngelos ceiling in The Sistine Chapel, Raphael's tomb in the Parthenon, and the Elgin Marble horses in St. Marks gold lined Cathedral.
I work in all mediums including photography, but mostly in oils.
